Analysis: Contents of the Dead Man's Pockets

"As the door opening narrowed, the current of warm air from the hallway, channeled through this smaller opening now, suddenly rushed past him with accelerated force. Behind him he heard the slap of the window curtains against the wall and the sound of paper fluttering from his desk, and he had to push to close the door."-from the Contents of the Dead Man's Pockets

  1. This is a quote from the Contents of the Dead Man's Pockets. It was a perfect description to the scene where the wind blew the paper of Tom's desk and flew out the window, creating the first conflict in the story. When we read the part where he heard the slap of the window curtains against the wall and the sound of paper fluttering from his desk, we could tell that these two foreshadows the destiny of the piece of paper. We could tell when the author emphasizes on the speed of the wind that it's going to be a key element to the story. With my own observation with my window and the strong wind in Hsinchu, I know what it's like when the wind tries to all rush into the room right before I close the window completely. The last pull on the window is always the hardest.
